Pins and sockets are of phosphor bronze and copper alloy (Bulgin Contact). Phosphor bronze is an ideal spring material since it maintains contact pressure even after thousands of cycles. It can take a lot of mating, and still keep its low resistance path. The electrical conductivity of copper alloy is good, thus it is ideal for bulging power cable systems and other power intensive applications. If tin or gold is placed on either metal, it shall resist oxidation. That’s why you can count on them in humid or salty conditions.

The connection bodies are made of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), extremely heat-resistant. PPS does not deform at 220°C. It resists chemicals so oils, solvents and cleaning chemicals will not damage it. This makes it suitable for installations very close to motors and other heat sources. In addition, PPS is inherently flame retardant and needs no extra halogen compounds. Its dimensional stability always guarantees perfect alignment of mating parts. Salt fog testing has confirmed the corrosion resistance of coastal and marine installations. Tin or gold plating prevents oxidation inside the contacts. Protective boots and seals at the entrance to the cable entry location prevent ingress of water. The connection still has its IP certification after 250 temperature cycles from -40°C to +85°C. Cold-weather seals remain flexible, and will not fracture, no matter how cold it gets.
